First outbreak- Wuhan, (China) 

Started in India on date- 30 January 2020 – on-going (1 year, 11 months and 1 week)

 Confirmed cases in India- 3.52 Crore 

 Total Vaccination: 1,49,66,81,156 (149+ million)

Important Points 

  • The first cases of COVID-19 in India were reported on 30th of January 2020 in three towns of Kerala.
  • Lockdowns were announced in India on 23 March 2020. 
  • Infection rates started to drop in September 2020 till January 2021. 
  • Second wave began in March 2021 was much more devastating than the first.
  • Major Problems were Shortages, hospital beds, oxygen cylinders and other medical supplies in different parts of the country 
  • Vaccination speeds up after 2nd wave.
  • India began its vaccination programme on 16 January 2021 with Covishield and         Covaxin.
  • Third Wave about to started in the January First Week 2022 and careses are Increasing 

New Variant-SARS-CoV-2 (From December 2021)

  • The third wave of the pandemic due to SARS-CoV-2 in India may peak from February First week, 2022.
  • Reported that the Omicron variant is less severe than the Delta variant. 
  • Scientist is working on Omicron and will continue to share the findings of these studies as they become available.
  • They will find different aspects of prevention and control of the Omicron variant. 
  • New Omicron detecting RT-PCR kit will give results in 4 hours.
  • Crossing the 149 million vaccine dose mark is an achievement for India.

Self-Awareness

  • Self-awareness and self-discipline are the strengths in fighting against the novel variant of the COVID.
  • Everyone should be Mentally Strong. 
  • Scientists are continuously studying Omicron variant so their suggestions are being worked upon.

Also, protect yourself and those around you:-

  • Get vaccinated as soon as Possible
  • Keep physical distance of at least 1 metre from others
  • Avoid crowds and close contact.
  • Wear a properly fitted mask in every Public Places
  • Clean your hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • If you develop symptoms or test positive for Omicron COVID-19, self-isolate until you recover.

General Awareness about Omicron in Public

  • Business meeting must be through Digital Platforms.
  • Posters on creating awareness among the public.
  • Need to behave in a responsible manner.
  • Importance of vaccines.
  • Guidelines to be followed and not to lower the guard against virus.
  • Make your environment safer

  • Fatigue
  • Congestion & running nose
  • Loss of smell
  • A scratchy throat and
  • Night sweats are common Omicron symptoms
  • Damage the heart, kidneys, lungs and brain.

  • Hand washing
  • Avoiding hand shaking
  • Wearing masks and gloves
  • Using sanitizer
  • Physical distancing
  • General personal hygiene
  • Consuming hot drinks, garlic and ginger Syrups
