The root cause of Dampness

Here are the leading cause of dampness-

  • If the roof's surface gets cracked- In the rainy season, Roof leaks are a significant source of water entering the house's walls, causing dampness.
  • Groundwater table- if the GWT is high, it will affect the foundation because the building materials used for the foundation absorb the water from the ground by capillary action.
  • House in a wet area- If you build the house in a place that doesn't quickly drain off, dampness will affect the building.
  • Due to the lousy craft in constructions- when Cavities and holes kept for erection of scaffolding and later not filled properly with concrete can become a source of dampness.
  • Not plastered the outer wall- If the external walls of the building are not protected, rainwater may affect the exterior walls, and water gets seeped through the walls, and dampness occurs in the internal walls.
  • Using Poor quality construction material- when you use low-price cement and aggregate or not good quality bricks, it often becomes a cause of dampness.
  • Leaking and clogged pipes – If your house is about to have 30-40 years old, it may cause breaking of the water pipes. Or if the lines are made from iron, they will erode over the periods. So, due to the leakage in water pipes, soil, wastewater, rainwater, or water supply pipes can all enter the wall.
  • Unplanned house design and inadequate waterproofing in the foundation-Sometimes the rear wall of your house is attached with vertically cut land or connected with backyard land without leaving any space. Not proper foundation, water tank, external walls, or bathrooms for inadequate waterproofing measures can be the worst source of attracting moisture.
  • Continuously rains for 2-3 Days-In rainy season, the walls get dampened, resulting in peeling of putty and paint. If you’re staying on the second floor of a 3 story apartment and too much water dropping occurs when it rains.
  • If the bathroom has a common wall with another room-it badly damages the other inner walls room.
